LUDHIANA, FEB. 29. The Congress would field some new faces in Punjab in the coming Lok Sabha elections, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said here today. Talking to media persons, he expressed his inability to disclose the constituencies from where the new faces would contest. He, however, made it clear that all those Congress members who were representing Punjab in the dissolved Lok Sabha would contest from the same constituency if they were allotted the party tickets. In reply to a question, he clarified that Manmoahan Singh, the former Union Finance Minister, would not contest from Ludhiana. Mr. Singh had undergone a heart surgery last month, he added. When asked about the Deputy Chief Minister, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal's recent remark that she had not been taken into confidence in respect of transfers of police officers in the State, Mr. Singh said that the transfers belonged to the Ministry of Home under his own charge. He too had never interfered in the departments under her charge as had happened in the case of recent transfers of Block Development Officers (BDOs), he said. Earlier, while addressing a religious congregation, the Chief Minister said that his Government's crusade against corruption could not produce any magic results. The fight would continue till corrupt faces were exposed and brought to book, he added.
