NEW DELHI, FEB. 29. The Janata Dal (United), a constituent of the NDA, today demanded the implementation of the Gopal Singh panel report that seeks to remove the economic and educational backwardness of the minorities. The party promised to take up with the Government the demand to amend Article 341 of the Constitution to ensure inclusion of all Dalits in the list of Scheduled Castes. The demands were made at a minorities' convention organised by the party. The conference passed a resolution demanding, inter alia, allocation of Rs.1, 000 crores towards removing educational and social backwardness of minorities, five per cent job reservation for economically-backward minorities and rehabilitation of the Gujarat riot victims. The Defence Minister, George Fernandes, and the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sharad Yadav, addressed the convention. Both the leaders flayed the Congress and blamed it for the problems faced by the minority community. They charged it with trying to appease individuals within the community rather than working for the uplift of the community.
