Temperature

MADURAI, FEB. 29 . The city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2 degree Celsius and a minimum of 21.1 degree Celsius.

No rainfall was recorded in the Madurai Airport during the last 24 hours.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam was 108.7 feet with an inflow of 83 cusecs. There was no discharge. The level in the Vaigai dam stood at 29.5 ft with no inflow or discharge.

Jewel shop burgled

Burglars struck at a jewellery shop at Melur near here on Saturday night, and decamped with 21 kg of silver vessels worth Rs. 1.9 lakhs.

The police said P. Manoharan (40) of Kanpalayam found the shutters of his shop on Melur-Alagarkovil Road broke open this morning. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.

The Melur police have registered a case.

Man run over

One person was killed in a road accident near Kottampatti on Saturday.

The police said C. Jayaraman (68) of Soorapatti was returning home around noon when a cylinder-laden mini-van ran over him on the Madurai-Tiruchi National Highway.

The victim was rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital, where he died last night.

The Kottampatti police have registered a case.

Grievances day

The Superintending Engineer, Madurai Electricity Distribution Circle, will conduct a consumer grievances day meeting at the Office of the Executive Engineer (Electrical), Samayanallur, on March 4.

The consumers of the Samayanallur division can air their grievances at the meeting, according to P. Natarajan, Executive Engineer, Samayanallur.

Bank branch shifted

The Madurai branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad at Simmakkal has been shifted to 95, West Perumal Maistry Street.

The bank's General Manager (Planning & Development) declared open the new premises on February 25.
