A resident of Narkatpally in Nalgonda district, Maheswari consumed poison on February 25, reportedly after developing differences with her husband, Srinu, over adoption of children and died at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences on Saturday while undergoing treatment.

Maheswari was married to Srinu two years ago. She got her pregnancy aborted a year ago after she was tested HIV-positive.

Apparently worried of their offspring contracting AIDS, the couple decided to adopt children. However, disputes arose between them as Maheswari wished to adopt an orphan child while Srinu wanted to adopt a child from his relative's family.
