NEW DELHI, FEB. 29. A person, who allegedly killed a 65-year-old former forest officer of Punjab Government along with his accomplice in a bid to steal his jewellery and mobile phone at Naraina Vihar in South-West Delhi on February 13, has been arrested. A hunt has been launched for his accomplice. Surender Chawla, who earlier ran an electronic good factory, was found strangled in the drawing room of his house by his youngest daughter, who told the police that two persons, who claimed that they knew one of Mr. Chawla's former employees named Anil, had come to meet him in January. The duo had again come to meet him three days before he was murdered. Acting on a tip-off, a police team comprising the Station House Officers (SHOs) of Naraina and Inderpuri police stations traced Anil and questioned him. He raised suspicion over the involvement of a person named Jatinder. The police, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, A.K. Singh, traced Jatinder's relative and on inquiry found out that he had gone to his village at Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, a team was sent to the village where his relatives revealed that Jatinder and his friend, Devesh, had gone there on February 15. The police laid a trap there and kept surveillance on a telephone number on which Jatinder used to talk to his relatives. Recently, Jatinder made a call, in which his parents asked him to hand himself over to the police, but he refused. His call was traced to Kota in Rajasthan, where another team was sent and Jatinder arrested. The police have launched a hunt for another accused.
