Double standards

Sir, — The elections are almost on us and we still do not know what the Congress stands for. Also, why is `India Shining' bad and `Karnataka Shining' good? During the rule of Indira Gandhi and even during Rajiv Gandhi's regime, Doordarshan used to telecast the `achievements' of the Government. And they were documentaries produced by the Government.

Devaki Pulastya,

Bangalore

* * *

Sir, — The Congress, instead of criticising the `India Shining' advertisements, should think of an effective counter-measure. It should not belittle the progress made by the country as this will amount to debunking whatever was achieved during its rule.

R. Balasubramanian,

Vishakapatnam, A.P.
