Nuclear plants

Sir, — The Nuclear Power Corporation of India's plan to set up more plants (March 2) becomes relevant only if the new generation of inherently safe reactors are preferred to the old generation of hazardous reactors. Any incremental addition of radioactive pollution from reactors to the existing background levels causes a corresponding increase in health hazards to plant, animal and human populations.

T. Shivaji Rao,

Visakhapatnam, A.P.
