Consumers must resist

Sir, — With the Conditional Access System now virtually gone, the consumers will soon be at the mercy of the cable operators. It is futile to expect any effective Government control over the rentals thereafter. "Consumer resistance" is the answer as was displayed by the lukewarm response to the set-top boxes when CAS was introduced, which also established that an overwhelming number was satisfied with free-to-air channels.
