India all set to wrap up series

By Our Special Correspondent

KOLKATA, MARCH 2. India is all set to wrap up the five-match one-day International series against the West Indies women here at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

Up 2-0 after easy victories at Dhanbad and Jamshedpur last month, the Indian women are confident and on the eve of the third game. The West Indians will have to come up with an outstanding display to try and delay the inevitable.

The tour of India has not gone well so far for the visiting team. In the two practice matches played at Chittaranjan, they lost to India `A' but managed to defeat Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) XI in the second. Ranked third behind New Zealand and Australia, India has carried too much firepower to this West Indies side. "We are not taking this game lightly. First we want to ensure a series victory with the best possible side," said Indian captain Mamatha Maben.

The West Indies skipper Stephanie Power was all praise for the home team and said her team's main task would be to tackle the Indian spinners successfully in the third encounter. "After gaining some experience in the first two games, we hope to play the spinners better this time," she said.

The teams (from):

West Indies: Nadine George, Nelly Williams, Juliana Nero, Verena Felicien, Doris Francis, Stephanie Power (captain), Candacy Atkins, Debbie Ann Lewis, Philippa Thomas, Jacqueline Robinson, Felicia Cummings, Geneille Greaves, Indomatie Goordial, Anisa Mohammed and Envis Williams.

Umpires: Messrs Alok Bhattacharya and Sushanta Pathak.
