BELGAUM, MARCH 2. The administration of Shree Bhagyalaxmi Sahakara Sakkare Karkhane Limited, Khanapur, has disbursed Rs. 6.38 crores due to sugarcane growers for over two years. Briefing presspersons, the Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of the factory, B.S. Palaksha, said here on Tuesday that the due to sugarcane growers was Rs. 14.17 crores. When he was appointed Administrator of the factory in second week of December last, the factory had 1,52,588 quintals of sugar. Of this, 84,950 quintals was sold for Rs. 8 crores, he said. He said the factory management also announced that it would give Rs. 825 per tonne of sugarcane. However, at present, the payment was being done through cheques at Rs. 425 per tonne of sugarcane on seniority basis. Payment would be done in respect of others after they opened bank accounts, he added. When his attention was drawn to salary dues of Rs. 4.18 crores to the factory employees, Mr. Palaksha said the priority was to clear the dues of sugarcane growers. To a question, he said only 26,255 quintals of good quality sugar was available with the factory now.
