Relief sought for poultry farmers
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
MARCH 2.
The National Egg Coordination Committee has urged the Centre to take up relief/rehabilitation measures for the benefit of small poultry farmers whose livelihood is hampered following the crisis in the industry posed by the bird flu scare.
The NECC chairman, Anuradha J. Desai, in a press release stated that the industry had already suffered a loss of Rs.500 crores.
"It is continuing to lose at least Rs.15 crores a day. At this rate the industry may collapse very soon."
She pleaded for rescheduling outstanding bank loans, reduction of interest rate on loans to 2 per cent lower than PLR, extension of fresh working capital and sanction of substantial grant for undertaking a campaign to educate consumers about chicken and eggs.
