HASSAN, MARCH 2. The Congress will kick start its election campaign in Hassan district from the "prestigious" Shravanabelagola Constituency, hitherto represented by the Revenue Minister and district in-charge, H.C. Srikantaiah, on March 6. Disclosing this at a workers' meeting convened by the Hirisave Block Congress in Channarayaptna taluk on Monday, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) observer, M.B. Srikanth, said the KPCC President, B. Janardhan Poojary, would address a public rally on the occasion, in which he would speak about the achievements of the Congress Government. He said 10 aspirants, including H.S. Vijaya Kumar, son of Mr. Srikantaiah, and Maravanahalli Range Gowda had filed applications seeking nomination to contest from the Shravanabelagola constituency. However, most of the workers favoured Mr. Srikantaiah's candidature, he added. He said the candidate would be selected on the basis of reports collected from various sources. Mr. Srikanth called upon party workers to support the candidate selected by the High Command. He also asked them to highlight the performance of the Congress Government in the past four years so that the voters would return the Congress to power in the State.
