IA's special package for cricket fans

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH 2. Cricket lovers can seize the opportunity of travelling to Lahore along with the Indian Cricket team members by a special Indian Airlines flight on March 10, as the flight has been thrown open to the public.

The special flight IC-1845 will leave Delhi at 1300 hours for Lahore to land there at 1330 hours (local time). Coinciding with the Indian team's Pakistan tour, Indian Airlines also announced a special package for the benefit of passengers travelling to Lahore.

Addressing a press conference here today, the Indian Airlines Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Sunil Arora, said the package would be available till April 30 and would include airfare, hotel accommodation, airport transfers, meal package and sight seeing. The special package would be available from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Lucknow and Jaipur. The approximate cost of the package to Lahore for three nights and four days from Delhi would be Rs. 18,800.

Mr. Arora said that a meeting between the External Affairs Ministry officials and Indian Airlines would be held here tomorrow to discuss the issue of increasing the number of flights to Pakistan. The Joint Secretary in the MEA, Arun Singh, would chair the meeting, and the Commercial Director, Anil Goyal, would represent IA.

The IA chief said that immigration matters were being sorted out and the Mumbai-Karachi flight would also be resumed soon. "There is no problem from the Ministry but I believe that the immigration authorities are not prepared because of the extra rush of Haj pilgrims,'' he said, adding that the flight could be resumed after Haj chartered flights were over. On the low occupancy of IA flights to Lahore, Mr. Arora said it would take about 3-4 months to gain stability as visa procedures were also taking quite some time. Asked if Indian Airlines would be further reducing fares on the Kerala-Gulf sector, Mr. Arora said it could be done only after the carrier got four more aircraft on lease during summer schedule.

Draw of lots for IA's Smart Voyager 3 was also held and Madan Mohan Mukherji, a resident of the Chittaranjan Park here, won the first prize of a holiday package for two persons to Paris. As many as 50 other prizes were also won by passengers through lucky draw .
