TRS to put up candidates against CPI(M)

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 2. The Opposition moves to avoid a split in votes received a setback today with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) insisting on putting up candidates against the CPI(M) as it was "unrelenting in its advocacy of an integrated State".

The TRS found no difference between the stand of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the CPI(M) and, therefore, proposed to defeat these parties which `are a stumbling block to the formation of a separate State of Telangana', the TRS president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, told reporters here.

Mr. Rao said the TRS would contest against the CPI(M) wherever it fielded candidates. He was at a loss to understand why the CPI(M) Politburo member, Sitaram Yechury, who strongly favoured an undivided State, did not see the point in relaxing the party's stand on the issue in the interest of defeating the TDP-BJP combine.
