HYDERABAD, MARCH 2. The second round of talks between the Congress and the Left parties, which began here today, did not make much headway. Coming out of the talks, the leaders expressed the hope that "things would be in place by March 24". Senior Congress leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, began consultations with CPI and CPI(M) leaders this morning. The CPI leaders led by their State secretary, S. Sudhakar Reddy, offered to scale down their earlier demand seeking 22 Assembly and three Parliament seats. A 15-2 arrangement would do, they said, but the Congress representative was not in a position to give any assurance without consulting the high command. The CPI (M) reiterated its demand for 18 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats, and sought an assurance from the Congress to avoid a split in the anti-NDA vote was not split. The CPI expressed misgivings over statements from the TRS that it might field candidates against the CPI(M).
