Chilli farmers' unrest continues
By Our Staff Reporter
WARANGAL,
MARCH 2.
A tense situation prevailed for the second consecutive day today at the Enumamula agricultural market, with chilli farmers' unrest continuing despite assurances to them from the Collector and other officials. Helpless farmers pelted stones at the Market Committee Chairman's chamber.
Traders not only refused more money but also stalled purchases at the market last evening. Though it was a holiday for the market, hundreds of farmers stayed back demanding that their produce be purchased by traders or the Government.
Sensing trouble, the police prevented the farmers coming from different corners at the outskirts. Some farmers deflated the tyres of an RTC bus. Additional forces were deployed to prevent them from damaging vehicles.
The Collector, N. Siva Sankar, summoned representatives of traders and farmers to continue the discussion.
