BANGALORE, MARCH 2. The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stolen a march over the Congress in its membership drive with over 500 people registering themselves online for membership within two days of launching its website, www.bjpkarnataka.org. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), on the other hand, does not have a website, though its Government is known for being IT-savvy. The Indian National Congress has a website, but there is no provision for online membership. The BJP has claimed that students, engineers, businessmen, housewives, lawyers, government servants, defence personnel and retired officials have registered themselves. Each of these online applicants have stated why they were joining the BJP and most of them cited the leadership qualities of the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the stand of the BJP on various issues.
