Asphyxiation deaths

AGRA MARCH 2 . Four people including two brothers died of asphyxiation in Kehrai village near Shamsabad town of Agra district, police said here. The incident occurred yesterday when the brothers went down a shaft made for the tubewell of their farm, one by one, but failed to come out. When their cousin followed by a neighbour entered to find out what had happened, they too could not come out, police said. The villagers were finally able to take them out and took them to hospital, where they were declared dead, they said.

Burnt alive

Saharsa March 2 . Three minor girls of a family died when their thatched house caught fire at Kachautdiara village in Bihar's Saharsa district today, official sources said. Seeta Kumari (11) and Geeta (10), daughters of one Kailash Singh and his neice Puja Kumari (10) were charred to death while they were asleep this afternoon and all family members were away in their fields. The fire appeared to have spread from an earthen oven that was left alight after the food was cooked, the sources said.

Killed while loading coal

Bokaro March 2. Three persons were killed and several injured when a huge chunk of coal fell on them while loading near Dugda coal washeries of the BCCL here, police said today. The labourers who were engaged in loading coal in the dumper were suddenly trapped inside when a huge chunk of coal weighing more than a tonne fell on them yesterday, the sources said. The local people who were present at the site rescued some labourers. A case has been registered and further investigation was on, police added.

Dies in stampede

Hajipur March 2. An elderly woman was killed and 12 people were injured in stampede during a stage show telling Lord Radha and Krishna's stories at Mahnar in Vaishali district. According to police the stampede yesterday occurred due to space crunch and overcrowding at the venue where the show was on. Of the injured, six had been rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital in serious condition, while the rest were admitted to local hospitals. The injured comprised mostly women and children.

Shot dead

Begusarai March 2. Unidentified gunmen shot dead a cement dealer, Dipak Agrawal, at village Ulao under Mufassil police station in Bihar's Begusarai district today, Superintendent of Police Alok Raj said. The gunmen fired at Agrawal when he was going to market, killing him on the spot.

One person was taken into custody in this connection, Raj said.

Killed over land row

Khargone March 2. A Dalit man was shot dead allegedly by his uncle over a land dispute at Damkhedi village under Bhagwanpura police station of the district, Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said today. He said the deceased Igariya (35) had constructed a house on the agricultural land which had become a matter of dispute between him and his uncle Bhaising. A case has been registered against Bhaising and a hunt is on to search him and his three sons who are absconding after the incident, they added.

Lifer for killing minor

Etawah March 2. A local court here has sentenced two people to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each for eve-teasing a minor girl and then killing her when she resisted their move.
