BJP flays Virbhadra's remarks

By Our Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA, MARCH.2. The State BJP has strongly reacted to the statement of the Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, where he has claimed that the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who calls Himachal to be his second home, has done nothing for the hill State.

The spokesman of the party, Randhir Sharma, has called Mr.Virbhadra Singh `a thankless person who has conveniently forgotten the special package worth Rs. 2000 crore which was given by the Prime Minister to the State'.

He said that during his earlier tenure as the Chief Minister, Mr Singh had failed to bring any loan or grant when Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister. He has now no right to blame Mr. Vajpayee for a step- motherly treatment.

Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal, has called Mr. Virbhadra Singh a `hypocrite who is wearing only a mask of honesty'.

Addressing mediapersons in Dharamsala yesterday, Mr Dhumal called Mr.Singh a `corrupt' politician who was using the police force to indict his political rivals.

Terming Mr. Singh's statement as unfortunate, he said the Chief Minister had moved a resolution in the Assembly thanking the PM on the issue and now during election time he was making these statements.
