Human chain By Our Staff Reporter COIMBATORE, MARCH. 2. The Kurichi - Vellalore Pollution Prevention Action Committee, Pothanur, will conduct a human chain protest at 4 p.m. on March 4, to demand that garbage dumping in Kurichi panchayat be stopped at once, to save people from health hazards, according to a release.
Cancer camp
The Cancer Help Centre, Ramnagar, will conduct a special camp to screen women for cancer on March 8, to mark Women's Day. A release said that free smears would be done to detect cancer of the cervix. There will also be a lecture on cancer and breast examination. Only 25 delegates will be taken for the programme, and they should register before March 6 with the Cancer Help Centre, Ph: 5378535/5378536.
Vasectomy
A vasectomy camp will be conducted at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), from 10 a.m. on March 5. A Collectorate release said that the procedure would be performed safely and painlessly without a scalpel, would not involve the use of stitches and was cent per cent reliable. Those who opted for it would be able to return immediately to work and there was no need to be admitted as an inpatient.
Birth certificates
Children whose births have been recorded, but names not yet registered, can apply for registration by filling in the prescribed application forms available with the Coimbatore Corporation. The special camp to register the names and issue the applications (for children born after January 1, 1994) will continue till March 8, according to a release.
Governor's visit
The Tamil Nadu Governor and Chancellor of Bharathiar University, P. S. Ramamohan Rao, will preside over the 19th convocation of the University, at 10 a.m. on March 5. He is scheduled to leave Coimbatore at 9 a.m. on March 6, according to a release.
Medical camp
The Youth Red Cross unit of Park's College, Chinnakkarai, joined hands with The Eye Foundation, R.S. Puram, to conduct a free eye camp in the villages of Chinampathi and Puthupathi on February 28 and 29. Eye operations will be done free at the Foundation on March 4, on patients who were selected for treatment, according to a release.
Nominated
D. Padmanaban, Correspondent, Dr. G. R. Damodaran College of Science, has been nominated as an `outside expert member' of the Academic Council of the Government College of Technology, for the academic years 2003-04 and 2004-05, by the Director of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu, according to a release.
