Man kills wife, commits suicide

BANGALORE, MARCH 2. A 35-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife and committed suicide by hanging himself at his house at Andharahalli village in Devanahalli Police Station limits in Bangalore Rural District on Monday night.

The police said Jagadish, a waiter in a bar, allegedly hit his wife, Bharathi, on the head with a hammer and slit her throat with a knife. Then, he hanged himself from the ceiling.

The police said Jagadish was an alcoholic and used to quarrel with his wife often. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when Bharathi's brother, Nagaraj, came to her house. Devanhalli Police have registered a case.

In another case, a resident of Nelakadiranahalli, Muniraju (35), reportedly committed suicide by hanging at his house on Monday night.

Muniraju's wife had reportedly resorted to suicide after a quarrel with him 20 days ago. He was in depression after that, the police said. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Peenya Police Station.

Fire in bank: Computers and furniture were destroyed in a fire that broke out in the Ulsoor branch of Karnataka Bank here on Tuesday morning. There were no casualties.

The fire was noticed in the computer section of the bank office at about 6 a.m. On being alerted, fire force personnel rushed to the spot in two fire tenders and extinguished the flames. A short circuit is reported to have triggered the fire. Ulsoor police have taken up a case.

Burglary: Burglars broke into a private software firm and took away a computer and other material, in all worth about Rs. 2.5 lakh. The firm is located on 20th main, 3rd Stage, BTM Layout, the police said.

A CD player and audio system worth about Rs. 2 lakh were stolen from the office of Kannada Ratnakala Sound System in Adugodi Police Station limits on Monday night.

The police have taken up a case on a complaint by Imran, the firm's owner.
