Three arrested on robbery charge

BANGALORE, MARCH 2. Chickpet Police have arrested three persons on the charge of robbery. The police said they were part of a gang, six members of which were arrested on February 21. The gang had committed robberies in the city and Maharashtra, they added.

Raheem Ummar Syed, alias Raheem, Iqbal Mohammad Sheikh, and Naseer Yasin Sheikh, all of Thane district in Maharashtra, were arrested in Mumbai on February 28. Those arrested earlier were Rasheed, Vikay, Siddique Khan, Imtiaz, Rakesh, alias Pappu, and Sanjay Kumar Gupta.

According to the police, Rs. 1.36 lakh in cash and a car were seized from them. Rasheed was arrested when he was reportedly fleeing with Rs. 65,000 in cash robbed from R. Chandrashekhar when the latter was on his way to a bank to deposit the money. Four others were arrested on the highway near Nelamangala on the basis of information given by Rasheed, the police added.

Robbed: Four unidentified men reportedly waylaid a travel agent, Shyamalal, and robbed him of his mobile phone, a gold ring, and Rs. 10,000 in cash on Airport Road on Monday night.

Airport police said the victim was driving his Tata Sumo vehicle when the culprits intercepted him and forced him to part with the valuables.

Theft case: Commercial Street Police arrested six persons on the charge of theft on Tuesday. The police said four cars, four two-wheelers, a compact-disc player, and a colour television set were recovered from them. They had stolen the vehicles and articles in Mico Layout, Ramamurthynagar, Shivajinagar, Ashoknagar, and Banaswadi police stations limits, the police added.

The accused are Anbu of Arekere BTM Layout, Prasad of Yelahanka Main Road, Harshavardhan of Viviane Road, Chakravarthy of Chelikere Kalyannagar, Sunil Kumar of Kullappa Circle, and Arogya Das of Banaswadi.

According to the police, Anbu and Prasad were arrested after they parked a car on Commercial Street and were moving around suspiciously. The others were arrested later. The accused were also involved in a robbery case, the police added.

Arrested: Yelahanka Police arrested Nagaraja of Palanahalli and Pappanna, alias Mukadi, on the charge of robbing a motorcyclist of his gold chain in Maruthinagar Layout.

The police said the chain had been recovered.

Srirampura Police arrested Khajavali of Mehabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on the charge of snatching a gold chain from a pedestrian, Geetha, at Okalipuram on February 29.

The police said the chain, which was cut into four pieces, had been recovered from the accused.

Khajavali has been remanded in judicial custody.

Raid: The Central Crime Branch Police arrested four women on the charge of immoral trafficking following a raid on a Bangalore Development Authority flat in Austin Town in Viveknagar Police Station limits on Monday.

The police said four mobile phones and Rs. 2,000 in cash had been recovered from the accused.
