Indian juniors register second win

NEW DELHI, MARCH 3. The Malaysians fought hard for a change. They even led for a brief moment. But in the end, the Indian junior team ran away 4-2 winner to take a 2-0 lead in the four-match junior hockey Test series at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday.

The Malaysians fought back from a goal down to be 2-1 up by the 56th minute. The Indian retaliation was quick and decisive as two goals were scored within as many minutes. Jitender Pal Singh drag-flicked a penalty corner in the dying seconds to round it off, just as he had set the ball rolling for the host in the 11th minute.

The early goal, through Jitender Pal, should have spurred the Indians on, but it was Malaysia, which kept probing and forcing penalty corners. Nothing came off those awards till Jivan Mohan got one in, off the seventh award for Malaysia in the 14th minute of the second-half.

Once P. Prabhakaran got a lucky touch to a free hit from the right by Sevaraju Sandrakasi to put Malaysia ahead, the match came alive.

Two lighting thrusts down the left fetched two quick goals for the home team, Girish Pimpale slotting in the first (2-2) and then Hari Prasad setting up Khandkar for a goal-ward push that was guided home by Birender Lakra (3-2). Jitender's last goal meant that the Indians had, for the second day running, struck four.
