NEW DELHI, MARCH 3. To help villages assess their development in terms of certain prosperity indicators, a Sonepat-based farmer, Amit Dahiya, has developed the "Interactive Development Index''. This index assess village development on ten parameters - land, people, productivity, employment, education, health, peace, responsibility, environment and excellence. "Usually, politicians promise the moon to farmers and others during election time. And then they conveniently forget about them. However, if villages knew where they stand, what they would demand is a little rise in the various indicators,'' says Dahiya, who made a presentation on his interactive development indeed at the recently concluded 2nd World Jat Convention. "The Jat community has the vitality and commitment to become a strategic partner in the productivity of progressive societies across the world,'' said Mr. Dahiya. "The culture of the jats is not just agriculture, there is much more to the community than its outstanding contribution to the Green Revolution.'' In fact, the convention brought successful people from diverse fields proving that jats have the natural potential to excel and all they need is exposure, focus and opportunity. In fact, the World Jat Foundation is headed by the former professor of Indian Institute of Technology, Jagdish Gehlawat. And as for Mr. Dahiya, he is the first poet from Haryana to be invited by the prestigious Sahitya Akademi to present his poetry in English. He has two books to his credit, `Paradox'' which is a collection of poems on love, nature and terror and "Murugan's Trees'' which is being translated into several languages.
