Make sacrifice for TDP defeat: APCC chief

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, MARCH. 3. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, D. Srinivas, has called upon the party's former legislators and aspirants to make some sacrifices for ending the `Narakasura regime' of the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu and usher light into the State.

Addressing party leaders at the District Congress Committee executive meeting here on Wednesday, Mr. Srinivas pointed out that they had made an election alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for defeating the TDP at the hustings.

Referring to reports about some sitting Congress legislators likely to lose their seats during seat sharing with the TRS, he said, "There should be some sacrifices. If we lose some seats we should not feel unhappy, as our aim is to defeat the TDP.''

He said, he too was ready to sacrifice his sitting Assembly segment if the TRS asks for it. "We are not appointed IAS officers to worry about losing seats. We are all political leaders and we should remain in politics and it is all part of the political game,'' he said.

Reiterating that he would strive to protect the interests of sitting party legislators, he said the alliance with the TRS was accepted by Andhra and Rayalaseema regions also for the defeat of the TDP Government. He predicted that the Congress party would attain power both at the Centre and in the State.

He also tried to pacify the sitting legislators and party aspirants by announcing they would revive the Legislative Council to accommodate party leaders. He said the party legislators after elections aspire only for the Minister berth and would not compete for various corporation and other director posts.

Refuting the charges of the Chief Minister about the distribution of nominated posts to party leaders, the PCC president questioned whether the TDP Government had not given any nominated posts to its party leaders. "They are all political appointments and we would definitely give posts to party leaders. If possible we would create new posts," he added.

Urging party leaders to work for the success of the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi's public meeting in Karimnagar town on March 11, he predicted that the TDP\BJP combine would be washed away in the coming elections. The former president of the APCC, M. Satyanarayana Rao, the party senior leaders -- G. Venkat Swamy, P. Shiva Shankar, and Narsa Reddy -- the Karimnagar DCC president, D. Sridhar, the former MLAs -- T. Jeevan Reddy, J. Ratnakar Rao, Bomma Venkateshwar, and K. Satyanarayana Goud -- and others were present.
