Voters throng BMP offices for enrolment in list

BANGALORE, MARCH 3. Eligible voters in the city are thronging the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's revenue offices and the designated photography locations to enrol themselves in the voters' list and get photo-identity cards.

The BMP started the second round of issuing identity cards in the last week of February. As many as 7,890 cards have been issued till March 2 in the five Assembly constituencies of Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, Gandhinagar, Chickpet, and Chamarajpet that are being covered initially, the BMP Deputy Commissioner (Administration), V. Srirama Reddy, who is also the District Electoral Officer, told The Hindu on Wednesday.

Voters can enrol themselves till seven days prior to the last date of filing nominations and the process of issuing ID cards would be completed by March-end, Mr. Reddy said.

As many as 49,896 new voters had applied for inclusion in the electoral rolls in November-December 2003, when the civic body conducted a three-week drive to add new voters.

For those, who did not have ID cards, they could still vote by furnishing one of the 12 other documents, including the ration card and driving licence, he added.

Issue of ID cards

The BMP will issue identity cards to eligible voters at the following designated photography locations on Thursday between 8.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m.

BMP limits: BMP Girls High School, Gandhinagar; Corporation High School, Magadi Road, ward office, PF Layout, Marenahalli; Government Higher Primary School, Bapujinagar, and BMP ward office tailoring centre, J.C. Road, Sudhamanagar.

Bangalore Urban District: ARO office, Yeshwanthapur RTO complex; Government Higher Primary School, Marthahalli; TAH, K.R. Puram office; Illalu School, Vijanapura; Dr. Ambedkar College, 10th main, J P Nagar; JHS English School, 15th main road, 2nd phase, Srinivasanagar; Government Model Primary School, Yellukunte; BMP ARO office, Dispensary Road; Ambika Kannada High School, Jaimaruthinagar; BMP ward office, Kirloskar Colony, Kamalanagar, and BMP ward office, Sharada Colony, Basaveshwaranagar.
