KANNUR, MARCH 4 . The Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, today said that the Government would not reverse its policy of opening up higher education to the self-financing sector. Inaugurating the education session of the 46th State conference of the Kerala Arabic Teachers' Federation (KATF) here, the Minister said the State had earned an additional revenue of Rs. 2,000 crores as a result of the Government's policy of sanctioning self-financing institutions in the higher education sector. Mr. Soopy said those critical of the policy were turning a blind eye to the fact that it had also led to further investments in the field of higher education. For the first time, positive signs had emerged in the education system, the Minister said. Unaided English medium schools were also playing a parallel role in the school education system in the State, he said. There may be cases where such unaided schools violated the Government guidelines, he said adding that the Government would initiate action against such institutions.
