Clarification on Cola plant

KOCHI, MARCH 4. The State Government today informed a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court that the order prohibiting the Coca-Cola plant at Plachimada in Palakkad district from drawing groundwater was applicable to open wells as well.

In an affidavit filed before the Bench, comprising Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair, the Government said that going by the definition of `well' under Section 2 (c) of the Act, it was very clear that groundwater included water in open wells also, as far as the plant was concerned.
