Tirupati
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, MARCH 4. In the on-going race for party ticket, it was on Thursday the turn of a retired Engineer-in-Chief, Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department, M. Nagaraja Rao, to stake claim for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket for the Tirupati Lok Sabha (Reserved) seat. A recipient of the Chief Minister's `Telugu Seva Patram' in 1997, Mr. Rao was also appointed by the State Government as an Independent poll observer for the 2002 Tirupati municipal council election held after a gap of nearly 13 years. A native of Thimmarajupalle village in Ramachandrapuram mandal near here, Rao was confident that his rich experience as the Engineer-in-Chief would stand him in good stead to serve the constituency if given a chance. However, the Lok Sabha seat was held by the BJP represented by N. Venkataswamy, a retired IAS officer, in the dissolved House. However, with the BJP reportedly taking a decision to re-nominate all its sitting members to their respective seats for the forthcoming elections too, might prove a problem for Mr. Rao.
Doctor in race
Assembly seat
In a related development, a retired Professor of Medicine in the Government-SVRR Hospital and the S.V. Medical College here, K. Raja Reddy, has joined the race for the Tirupati Assembly ticket on behalf of the Congress.
