Charge against BJP

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, MARCH 4. The per capita foodgrain consumption in the country when H.D. Deve Gowda was Prime Minister was 174.20 kg., which meant that every person was consuming 477 gm. of food every day. But during the BJP's rule, it had come down to 151 kg., which meant that every person was consuming 414 gm. of food.

The statistics were quoted by the former Prime Minister here today while pooh-poohing the BJP's claim that India was shining. He charged that the BJP was spreading falsehood to garner votes. He said that half the world's population was hungry and nine out of every 10 pregnant women in the country were anaemic and undernourished.
