COIMBATORE, MARCH 4. The District Collector, N. Muruganandam, has advised candidates and political parties, who have begun electioneering by putting up their campaign materials like flags, banners besides wall-writings and paintings on the walls of the Government buildings, quasi-Government undertakings, to remove them. The District Collector, who is also the District Election Officer, has announced that with the Election Commission formally notifying the poll schedule, the code of conduct comes into immediate effect. The Corporation Commissioner - Coimbatore, Sub-Collector - Pollachi, Revenue Divisional Officers - Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dharapuram and all Municipal Commissioners in charge of conducting the polls had been advised to keep monitoring the campaign to ensure that there was no breach of code of conduct by any candidate or political party. The District Administration said it was learnt that some of the parties and candidates had violated the code by using the government buildings and walls for campaigning. They should come forward to remove those campaign tools within ten days, failing which the local bodies would remove the campaign materials. The cost incurred would be recovered from the political party and the candidates. The expenses would be added to the candidates' electioneering expenditure account besides initiating criminal action. Similarly, the candidates and political parties should remember that wall writings and paintings on private buildings could be done only after obtaining the permission of the building owner, otherwise it would be deemed as a violation.
