THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 4. In a move to make the Railways more tourist-friendly, the destination boards of trains starting from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi have been replaced with vinyl stickers which, in addition to the destination, carry attractive photographs of tourist landmarks and destinations. The new stickers have been introduced for the first time in the Thruvananthapuram-New Delhi Kerala Express. The four-feet-long metal board have been replaced with vinyl stickers with the major landmark and tourist attractions from Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi along with destination in Malayalam, English and Hindi and train number. Photographs of Red Fort, India Gate and Qutab Minar are the tourist landmarks from New Delhi. From Ke rala, there is the Kovalam beach resort, Padmanabha Swamy temple and "Kettuvallom". In the train indicator boards installed near the engine and near the coach of the guard, the photographs of a Kathakali mascot, "Kettuvallom" and Qutab Minar have been included. As part of making the rake more commuter-friendly, Malayalam, Hindi and English boards have also been provided. "The vinyl stickers are easy to clean and can be replaced if they are damaged or stolen. The boards have more visual appeal, last longer and help in promoting the tourist attractions of the State," says P.A. Salaudeen, coaching depot officer, and Elias Cherian, supervisor. The Railways would introduce the new indicator boards in all its trains from the State capital in a phased manner and efforts to finalise the contract is on, Mr. Salaudeen said.
