PUDUKOTTAI, MARCH 5. About 225 Adi Dravida students of Pudukottai including girls will get vocational training through the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravida Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) this year, the Collector, Hiteshkumar Makwana, has said. The training would be provided in various trades such as auto electrician, electrical wiring, motor mechanism, household electrical appliance services and computer hardware through 20 government-approved Industrial Training Institutes and polytechnics, he said, inaugurating the training programme here on Thursday. The Government has sanctioned Rs.12 lakhs in this regard. The trainees would be provided a monthly stipend of Rs.400 each, while the training institutions would get Rs.300 per month for each trainee. The trainees would be extended credit-cum-subsidy to start small-scale ventures. He stressed the importance of service sector in the industrial scenario and urged the trainees to tap the opportunities available in the field. Qualified professionals were in great demand in the sector. Mr. Makwana said 50 per cent of the allocation under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana and Swarnajayanthi Gram Swarozgar Yojana would be used for implementation of welfare schemes for Adi Dravidas. The Government has allotted Rs.39.51 lakhs to the district for disbursal of subsidy to Adi Dravidars for starting self-employment ventures. About 72 Adi Dravida women have been provided sewing machines in the district this year at a cost of Rs.4 lakhs under the Collector's Discretionary Fund. He urged the unemployed youth from the Adi Dravida communities to avail the various welfare schemes implemented by the government. The Project Officer of the District Rural Development Agency, P.Selvarajan, the General Manager of the District Industries Centre, S.Ramachandran, the district Adi Dravida Welfare Officer, K.Thiagarajan, and the District Employment Officer, Pazha. Dhanapal, spoke.
