Reservation of seats for SCs/STs in J&K

JAMMU,
MARCH 5.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today passed a Bill for the reservation of seats for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other educationally backward classes in professional colleges.
The Social Welfare Minister, Mula Ram, introduced the Bill. Earlier, the reservation for these section in professional colleges was through the Sadare-Riyasat Order 126. During the discussion, the Opposition demanded that the Bill be referred to a select committee.
Abdul Rahim Rather of the National Conference said: "We do not oppose the Bill. There are some flaws in the draft of the Bill, and therefore, it should be referred to a select committee."
