MANGALORE, MARCH 5. The Bethany Samaja Seva Trust, Mangalore, is organising a women's convention here on Sunday to mark International Women's Day, which falls on Monday. The event coincides with the 10th anniversary of the trust. More than 2,500 women representatives from mahila mandals and self-help groups promoted by the trust are expected to attend. Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra, Bendoor; Jeevandhara Samaja Seva Kendra, Kulshekar; Sanjeevini Samagra Samudaya Arogya Kendra, Kinnigoli; Karunalaya Bethany Seva Kendra, Attavar; Shubhada, Suralpady; Vanita Self-Employment Centre, Kinnakambla; L.M. Pinto Arogya Kendra, Badyar; and Mahila Mandalagalu Mathu Swasahaya Sanghagalu, all part of the trust, are promoting the event. The trust secretary, Lillis, told presspersons here on Thursday that the function would be held on St. Raymonds School grounds, Vamanjoor, near here. She said an exhibition on various items prepared by women entrepreneurs would be on display. This was aimed at motivating members of mahila mandals and self-help groups at coming up with creative products themselves. She said the trust wanted to reach out to marginalised women in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Various training programmes conducted on a regular basis ensured that such women led a self-sufficient life and the feedback from them was good. She said Santosh, regional head of Carithas India, Bangalore, would be the chief guest and also inaugurate the convention.
