I have an open mind: CEC

BANGALORE, MARCH 5. As the controversy over the prohibition of political advertisements on the broadcast media continues to rage, the Chief Election Commissioner, T. S. Krishnamurthy, said today that he had an open mind on the issue.

Asked for his reaction to a newspaper report, which said the Government would call an all-party meet to discuss the issue, Mr. Krishnamurthy said: "It's okay (calling an all-party meet). I have nothing to say on that. Let's see."

"I would like to see the developments (regarding the issue). Thereafter, I will react. Let's see what's happening. At the moment, I have an open mind on the issue," he said.

On views that the law prohibiting such advertisements was "obscure," Mr. Krishnamurthy said he was bound to implement the law. "So long as the law is not changed or amended, we have to implement the law."
