NEW DELHI, MARCH 5. Three persons, including a couple, have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on charges of cheating hundreds of people to the tune of Rs. 1 crore on the pretext of arranging loan for them without any surety and guarantor. The EOW recently received a complaint from a person alleging that Sutesh Sunder and his wife, Surjeet Sunder, cheated him on the pretext of providing him loan. The couple, who ran one Balaji Consultant firm, had assured the complainant to arrange a loan of Rs. 2.25 lakhs through another firm named Globe Finance Associates. As demanded, the complainant provided them copies of his house's deed and Rs. 21,200 as processing fee. However, the couple neither got him the loan nor returned his money. Acting on the complaint, the police investigated the matter and found out that the couple had cheated hundreds of people on the same pretext. Accordingly, they registered a case and mounted a raid at the Balaji Consultant office. During the raid, the police seized 56 files of loan applications after which they raided the Globe Finance office and one Shree Finance office, from where they seized 29 such files. Investigations revealed that the couple along with their accomplices had cheated people of Rs. 1 crore on the pretext of providing them loan to the tune of Rs. 11 crores. The police have arrested Sutesh, Surjeet and their accomplice named Pradeep Bhateja, while they have launched a hunt for others involved in the racket.
