DHAKA, MARCH 6. At least 30 Opposition activists were injured as baton-wielding policemen clashed with demonstrators during the countrywide general strike called by Bangladesh's Opposition parties demanding early elections and protesting the attack on the noted writer, Humayun Azad. The clash broke out when activists of Communist Party of Bangladesh and Awami League attemped to bring out a procession during the strike, the fifth in a month. Earlier in the day police had arrested 12 Opposition activists when they were trying to take out a procession from Dolaipar area here, according to witnesses. The strike was called by main opposition Awami League and three leftist parties the Communist Party of Bangladesh, the Workers Party and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. PTI
