NAGAPATTINAM, MARCH 6 . The Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, observed that guidance was so important as proper planning to achieve progress in one's life. Addressing a meeting got up at the E. G. S. Pillay Arts and Science College here yesterday to mark the inauguration of `placement cell', he said the aim of imparting education to students was not only to help them improve their knowledge but also help them acquire a status in society. To command respect in society, one had to get a proper job or take up self-employment. "For achieving these goals, the students require proper guidance", he said. Acquisition of new knowledge and updating of latest developments alone would help students achieve their ambition in this competitive world, Mr. Veera Shanmugha Moni said, urging them to make the best use of the `placement cell' opened by the District Employment Office on the college premises. Earlier, the Collector inaugurated an exhibition on job opportunities and various schemes offered by the Government for taking up self-employment, organised by the Employment Office at the college. He also distributed prizes to winners of essay and oratorical competitions conducted by the Employment Office.
