Temperature

TIRUCHI, MARCH 6 . The City today registered a maximum temperature of 35.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.2 degree Celsius.

Rift between policemen, loadmen

A wordy quarrel between traffic policemen and a section of loadmen in the Gandhi Market led to disruption of traffic for half an hour last morning.

The police said the load men were agitated when a lorry driver, Kannan, of Rasipuram in Namakkal district was charged with spot fine for parking the vehicle.

The loadmen gheraoed the traffic police, refusing to pay fine. However, the amount was later paid, the police said.

Undertrial dies

An undertrial suffering from the Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome died in the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital here yesterday.

The police said Dinakaran (27) of Keelavasal in Thanjavur district was admitted to the hospital on February 2.

The Uraiyur police have registered a case. An RDO enquiry has been constituted, the police said.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the following areas: Lalgudy, Anbil, Poovalur, Kattur, Mettupatty, Sirumayamkudy, Pudur Uthamanur, Vellanur, Kallakudy, Pullampady, Melarasur, Kallagam, Mandurai and Koohur.

A release from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board issued here today said the shutdown was in the wake of the maintenance of the sub-station at Poovalur.

Honoured

The principal of the M.I.E.T Arts and Science Colege, A. Kamaludeen, was honoured with the Dr. Malcolm Adiseshiah Award by the Tamil Nadu Board of Continuing Education and State Resource Centre for Non-Formal Education, recently, in commemoration of the World Science Day - 2004.

Prof. Kamaludeen was chosen for the award in recognition of his contribution as an Adult Education Officer since 1990. He adopted Anthanallur and Allor Panchayats and eradicated illiteracy among adults.
