TRAI to seek review of stay on CAS

NEW DELHI, MARCH 6. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) would seek a review of the ex-parte stay by the Madras High Court on the Union Government's notification indefinitely suspending implementation of Conditional Access System (CAS), with its chairman, Pradip Baijal, saying that the Authority had approached the court to be heard on the issue before the stay was awarded.

The TRAI would seek the appeal on the basis that it was yet to formulate detailed guidelines for CAS, implementation of which has kept in abeyance for the time being, Mr. Baijal told PTI adding any view taken on the subject should await the framing of rules.

``What the Madras High Court has given is an ex-parte stay. We will present our case before the court. We will also seek a clarification on whether the stay is only meant for Chennai or is it applicable to the entire country,'' Mr. Baijal said.
