VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH 6. The 45th ward Congress corporator and a member of the Municipal Standing Committee, Dadi Satyanarayana, on Saturday denied that he had encroached upon the land of Kodipandela Dibba in the division. The allegation was made against him by Telugu Desam corporators during the VMC general council meeting two days ago. Mr. Satyanarayana, who denied the allegations then itself, told a press conference that the land was encroached upon by several poor families 30 years ago. They were also issued ration cards and individual latrines, while a social welfare organisation laid roads. He demanded an inquiry into the allegation and wanted permanent housing to be provided to the encroachers under the Valmiki Ambedkar Aawad Yojna. The corporator also alleged that the Deputy Mayor, Malla Appala Raju (TDP), made a charge (during the council meeting on Thursday) that Rs.15 lakhs had been paid to a Congress member for electing TDP candidate as Standing Committee Chairman. Mr. Satyanarayana, who lost the election to the TDP candidate, Pyla Mutyala Naidu, demanded an inquiry into the "revelation'' made by the Deputy Mayor. Senapati Appa Rao, a corporator, and some residents of the Kodipandela Dibba, were present at the press conference.
