By Our Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD,

A police inspector, who was arrested by the in the Bilkis Banoo gang-rape case, has been remanded to five days CBI custody.
Idris A. Sayed was arrested from Jamnagar, where he is now posted, on Friday and was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate here today. The head of the CBI investigating team, A.K. Sinha, said Sayed would again be produced in the court on March 11.
At the time of the incident on March 3, 2002, which took place during the communal riots, Sayed was a sub-inspector attached to the Limkheda police station in Dahod district.
The CBI, which investigated the case at the behest of the Supreme Court, reportedly found prima facie involvement of Sayed in destroying the evidence related to the incident in which several women were gang-raped and 14 members of the Bilkis Banoo family killed.
Sayed's anticipatory bail plea was rejected last month by an Ahmedabad court.
