Indologist dead

BEIJING, MARCH 6. A Chinese indologist and a disciple of Rabindranath Tagore, Wei Fengjiang, died on Friday in east China's Hangzhou city. Wei, a renowned scholar on India, was closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi, sources said here today. Wei (93) had studied in Vishva-Bharati University at Shantiniketan along with Indira Gandhi. He last visited India in 1997 to attend the 50th anniversary of the country's Independence. Many of his works on India are displayed at a museum in Hangzhou. — PTI
