HASSAN, MARCH 6. The problems that cropped up in the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party following the admission of leaders from other political parties have been solved and the party is now prepared to face the elections, D. Dayanand, President of the BJP district unit, said here on Saturday. Addressing a press conference, he said B.V. Kari Gowda, formed legislator, had severed his two- decade association with the Janata Dal (Secular) and joined the BJP, as he was "pleased'' with the "achievements'' of the National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre. The former MLA and the district unit President of the All-India Progressive Janata Dal, E. Nanje Gowda, also joined the party on such a sentiment. Admission of both the leaders was unconditional, he added. Welcoming them to the party officially, he said some more "prominent'' leaders from other parties were expected to join the BJP in the district soon. To a query, the General Secretary of the BJP district unit, D. Dase Gowda, said the party had extended the deadline to submit applications for candidature till March 15 and applications of the aspirants would be forwarded to the State unit for consideration. Admitting that the party was weak in some Assembly segments, he said it would be strengthened in future and national leaders such as the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, would campaign in the district. Mr. Advani would visit Hirisave, Channarayapatna and Arsikere on March 13 as part of his Bharath Uday Yatra and address public meetings. The party workers' meeting would also be held in several phases to strengthen the organisation in every Assembly segments. Reacting to an appeal made by a delegation of the district leaders to the State leadership against admission of other party leaders and nominating them for the elections, the party spokesperson, Navile Annappa, said political realignment was common among all political parties. The candidates would be selected on the basis of their background and their ability to win in the election. Mr. Kari Gowda said he joined the BJP as he found that it was better than the Congress in many respects. He promised not to quit the party even if it refused to nominate him for the coming election.
