Shooting
NEW DELHI, MARCH 6. Arti Singh shot a 69 out of 75 in women's skeet and missed the final by one point in the shooting World Cup in Sydney on Saturday. The Delhi girl started brilliantly with a 25 out of 25 but could not sustain such form in the next two rounds when she returned cards of 22. The toughness of the competition could be gleaned from the fact that the Sydney Olympic champion Zemfira Meftakhetdinova of Azerbaijan finished sixth with a 92 following a shoot-off with two others. Maarit Lepomaki of Finland took the gold as she followed a 73 with a 23 in the final, to beat Huiqin Wang of China by two points. Hong Yan Shi of China won the bronze with a 93 out of 100.
Mansher Singh felicitated
Meanwhile, recently crowned Asian champion, trap shooter Mansher Singh was felicitated by the president of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Mr. Digvijay Singh, at his residence here on Friday evening. Though the function was meant to honour the eight shooters who had qualified for the Athens Olympics, only Manavjit Singh Sandhu was present on the occasion, apart from Mansher. Anwer Sultan who had won the team gold along with Mansher and Manav was also felicitated.
