BANGALORE, MARCH 6. Healthy eating habits to prevent diabetes and new technologies for its management is the focus of "Your Diabetes World", a two-day exhibition organised by Novo Nordisk Education Foundation, which began here on Saturday. The exhibition targets not just diabetics, but also other members of the public to increase awareness on diabetes and steps for its prevention. Lucky Ali, singer and actor, inaugurated the exhibition. The Arjuna Award winner, Reeth Abraham, released a book by Kavita Kapur and Anil Kapur, Making Healthy Food Choices, to mark the occasion. The highlight of the exhibition is the display of various types of food that are categorised as healthy, not so healthy, and unhealthy. Through a "signalling system" visitors are shown what to eat and how to choose healthy food. Panels give information on complications of the disease, its symptoms and risk factors, and the high-risk groups. Sanjeev Kelkar, medical director of the foundation, said the main aim of the foundation was to promote diabetes education and train medical professionals in the management of the disease. The foundation focussed on spreading awareness on social and economic implications of diabetes. Similar exhibitions would be held in Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, and Lucknow, he added. The exhibition has stalls displaying devices for monitoring blood glucose in an easy way and the latest tools for painless insulin administration. The visitors can have their blood glucose and cholesterol tested and glycated haemoglobin measured to give an idea of diabetes control. There are foot care services and products, educational books in south Indian languages and English. The exhibition is being held at the Kodava Samaj building in Vasanthnagar here.
