THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 6. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) plans to take over the modern market built under the E.U.-assisted Agricultural Market Development Project near Ernakulam. The Secretary (Agriculture), V. P. Joy, told The Hindu that the discussions for this were under way. The NDDB would take charge of the auctioning and other activities planned at the market. It would also set up outlets for the distribution of vegetables and other items from the market at the auction price in Kochi. The construction of three urban markets (one each in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts) and three rural markets (one each in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Wayanad districts) have been taken up under the project at a cost of Rs. 72 crores. However, they have not started functioning years after the project has been completed.
