CPI(M) stands by Plan campaign: Pinarayi

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, MARCH 6. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, has said that the party still stands by the concept of People's Plan Campaign implemented during the last LDF regime.

Delivering the `P. Kannan Nair memorial lecture' on the 14th death anniversary of the late P. Kannan Nair, former party State committee member and general manager of the Deshabhimani here on Saturday, Mr. Vijayan refuted the allegation that the People's Plan Campaign was an imperialistic ploy. If any individual could stake claim to the concept, it was none other than the late E.M.S. Namboodiripad, who had clear ideas about decentralisation of power.

Tracing the history of Communist movement in India, when the party had been plagued by both right and left deviations many a time, Mr. Vijayan said the recent developments involving the CPI(M) were only a continuation of these deviations. He claimed that the party had taken an uncompromising attitude towards all such deviations in the past. The party had adopted the same stance in dealing with the present left as well as right deviations.

Describing the controversial `Fourth World' concept put forth by the Left intellectual, M.P. Parameswaran, who was ousted from the party recently, as a `rightist deviation', Mr. Vijayan said the CPI(M) could in no way accept such `wild' theories which disregarded the concept of leadership of the proletariat. He accused Mr. Parameswaran of having abandoned this vital concept, which formed the essence of Marxist theory. ``Fourth World is in fact the creation of a dream world, which Mr. Parameswaran finds himself in,'' he said. The CPI(M) had all along been able to muster people's support through its unwavering belief in Marxist-Leninist principles.

Mr. Vijayan also lambasted Left intellectuals, including M.N. Vijayan and S. Sudheesh, who had adopted an `anti-CPI(M) stance' through the magazine Padhom. The magazine was launched with a sharp attack against the `Perumbavur document' adopted by the Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sanghom, which had called for a more open attitude to many issues.

Referendum

Our Staff Reporter writes from Alappuzha:

Mr. Vijayan said the coming Lok Sabha election would be a referendum on the performance of the UDF Government in the State. Inaugurating the State conference of the Kerala State Vyapari Vyavasayi Samithi here today, Mr Vijayan said though national issues would be discussed in the poll, the focus would be on the three-year rule of the UDF Government. Terming the UDF Government a total failure, he said Ministers had little time for their duties as they were involved more in group politics.

Referring to the Killi incident, he said the State Government had failed to provide protection to the life and property of the citizen. Goonda gangs had expanded their areas of influence and the police had done little to curb their activities.

Mr. Vijayan said the NDA Government at the Centre had excelled all other previous Congress Governments in corruption.
