Conditioning camp from today

KOLKATA, MARCH 6. One of the shortest conditioning camps for the Indian cricket team in recent times will begin at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday. The camp, before the team's tour of Pakistan, will be for just two-and-a-half days.

Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Kaif arrived last night and joined skipper Sourav Ganguly in a commercial shoot for a soft drink company this morning at the Tollygunge Club. L. Balaji, Hemang Badani and Parthiv Patel were expected later in the evening. Vice-captain Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Kapil Dev and others will reach here on Sunday morning, according to a spokesman of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). This may force the first day's programme to begin in the afternoon.

Apart from Kapil Dev interacting with the pace bowlers, legendary spinner E.A.S. Prasanna is also likely to interact with the team. Left-arm paceman Ashish Nehra is unlikely to reach here, after the National selection committee preferred him to play the Duleep Trophy final.

The entire squad will leave for New Delhi on the evening of Tuesday. The squad is to be briefed by the home and foreign ministry officials before the players assemble to meet the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. — Our Special Correspondent
